Romania’s Forest fund surface, below EU average
Romania’s forestry fund accounts for 27.3 percent of the country’s territory and is below the European Union (EU) average, which stands at about 36 percent, according to data released on Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INS ).
In 2011, the forest fund area increased by 4,297 hectares (0.1 percent), to 6,519,470 hectares, mainly due to pastures reforestation and introduction of degraded land into the Forest fund.
At the EU level, Finland has a forest fund area of 65.5 percent of the country’s territory, Sweden 62.6 percent, Slovenia 61.8 percent, Estonia and Austria, 49 percent and, respectively, 46.4 percent. At the opposite pole there is Hungary, with a forest fund area of 21.8 percent, Denmark – 12.6 percent, Ireland – 10.5 percent.
