The setting up of a political union or of a construction of a federal type in the territory of the European Union is the main aim we must tend to finally, considering the economic situation European states currently face, Minister of European Affairs Leonard Orban told the debate titled ‘Romania and the European Semester,’ which was organized by the representative office of the European Commission (EC) to Romania on Monday.
‘Currently there is an only alternative, namely the disintegration of the Eurozone and of the European Union. It is for this very reason that we must work for finally creating a political union or a construction of a federal type in the EU territory. During the meeting of the European Council, which will be held on June 28 and 29, they will make important decisions on several planes, some of which are the agenda of measures referring to the economic growth, but also a first outlook referring to what can happen finally to the Eurozone and the European Union as a whole,’ said Leonard Orban.
According to him, they have already made decisions on the fiscal consolidation, which are to be found in the Fiscal Treaty, but also in other documents that were drawn up in the process of economic governance.
‘European decision makers have a difficult mission to identify the most suitable instruments meant to support the process of fiscal consolidation. But we must not have very high expectations, as the action margin of the European decision makers is limited. What matters most at present is the contents of the measures to be made during the European Council, which will be held at the end of June,’ said Orban.
