Democracy cannot exist without a strong intelligence service and a strong army, and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) as well as the National Intelligence Academy are living up to the highest professional standards in the world, Prime Minister Victor Ponta told the 20th anniversary on Tuesday of the National Intelligence Academy.

‘It is a great honour to me to be here today, because I think high of those who know an intelligence career do not offer satisfactions or material benefits, just hard work. The 20 years we are celebrating today are as many years of democracy. Democracy cannot exist without a strong intelligence service and a strong army and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) as well as the National Intelligence Academy are living up to the highest professional standards in the world, although their praises are not public. That is why I want to congratulate Mr. Maior on the highest training level of the students of the National Intelligence Academy,’ said Ponta.

In his turn, Director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) George Maior said the Government should use intelligence to benefit the citizens.

‘In the 21st century, the century of information, the Government should be an intelligent player able to sustain Romania’s interests. I am glad to see the prime minister and members of his cabinet attend this ceremony, because the Government should use information and intelligence to benefit the citizens, given that the times we are living are not easy times,’ said Maior.

Attending the ceremony were students of the National Intelligence Academy and officials of other public institutions.
