Romania Caretaker President meets US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs

Romania’s Caretaker President Crin Antonescu will meet U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon here on Monday, the Presidential Administration announced.

The U.S. Department of State on Saturday announced Gordon, Assistant to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will pay a visit to Romania on Sunday to meet senior Government officials in order to discuss the United States’ concerns about the recent actions of the Romanian Government seen as threatening the democracy and weakening the independent institutions.

The U.S. official, who visited Istanbul together with Secretary of State Clinton on Saturday, is to also meet members of the civil society and of the business community to discuss the manner in which their activity has an influence on strengthening the democratic values and principles uniting the trans-Atlantic community, the release said.
