OSCE PA delegation meets Lower House Speaker for upcoming elections observation mission
Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker Valeriu Zgonea presented a visiting delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) the requirements set in force under the constitutional and legislative regulations on the organization and carry-through of parliamentary elections in Romania, in view of an OSCE mission participating as external observer in the Dec. 9 electoral process.
According to a release issued by the Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea „assured the foreign delegation that they would get full support for the smooth unfolding of the elections observation mission.” The Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker voiced his confidence that the parliamentary elections due on Dec. 9 „will take place in a balanced environment, consistent with OSCE commitments and international standards for democratic elections,” the cited source said.
The delegation was made up of OSCE PA Vice-President Wolfgang Grossruck, and Ambassador Andreas Nothelle, OSCE PA Special Representative in Vienna.
At the invitation extended by the Romanian authorities, OSCE will organize an international mission for the observation of the Dec. 9 elections, as part of a common operation carried out by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE / ODIHR) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA).
