Tourists are warned not to travel up on the paths higher than 1,500 metres in Fagaras Mountains, at Balea tourism resort in Sibiu County, after the risk of avalanche soared to four (on a scale from one to five), a risk level to remain the same in the upcoming days, announced Adrian David, head of Sibiu Mountain Rescue Service.
At Balea Lac, placed higher than 2,000 metres high in the Fagaras Mountains, the snow was 1.5 metres high on Monday morning, according to Sibiu weathermen.
„In order to prevent mountain accidents, we ask the tourists not to climb the upper tourism paths towards the chalets in the northern area of Fararas Mountains and to avoid to practise winter sports in this area. The access to chalets at Balea Lac resort can be done only by gondola lift from Balea Falls,” said Adrian David.
According to him, the tourists should talk to mountain rescuers before practising winter sports in the tourism area Balea Lac. Those who go to the Ice hotel and the chalets at Balea Lac area must have winter equipment and avalanche rescue equipment.
