Justice Minister Mona Pivniceru considers the European Commission’s report on Romania’s progress under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) as ‘positive’ overall.
‘The report is positive overall. The document mentions that the Ministry of Justice has set out a multiannual strategy for the implementation of the four Codes. (…) The Civil Code has already entered into force, the Code of Civil Procedure comes into force at the date estimated by the Commission, the Criminal Code on February 1, 2014, and the law on the enforcement of the Code of Criminal Procedure will be adopted this summer, and will enter into force on the same day, February 1, 2014. The package consisting of the criminal stipulations on serving prison sentences, non-custodial sentences and the package on probation will also come into force on the same day,’ Mona Pivniceru told a press conference on Wednesday.
