Two people were killed and three injured in an army Puma SOCAT helicopter crash in Bacau county (eastern Romania) on Thursday, Lt Col Andrei Grecu, the spokesman of the Bacau County Inspectorate for Emergencies told RTV news channel.
He said five people were aboard the helicopter.
The three injured persons were flown by a helicopter to the County Hospital of Bacau city.
The Inspectorate official added the helicopter is still ablaze and the firemen are fighting to extinguish the fire.
The Romanian national defence minister and the army chief of staff together with specialists with the Air Forces General Staff are heading to the crash site.
An army Puma SOCAT helicopter crashed Thursday at about 4:00 p.m. at Beresti-Bistrita, the eastern Bacau county.
„The announcement was made by a motorist driving on DN 2 highway”, Lt Col Andrei Grecu, the spokesman of the Bacau County Inspectorate for Emergencies told .
He added that the ambulance, firemen and police officers were already heading for the crash site.
„A helicopter is flying over the area”, the mayor of Beresti-Bistrita town Mihai Dascalescu said.
