MAE: President of International Exhibitions Bureau, Ferdinand Nagy, in evaluation mission in Brazil
President of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) Ferdinand Nagy, who is paying a visit to Brazil in order to evaluate the candidacy of this country for hosting the World Exhibition in 2020, was received by President Dilma Rousseff, the Vice President and Foreign Minister, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, as well as by the Vice President, Michel Temer.
The mission aims to analyze the viability and feasibility of the candidacy submitted, verification of its compliance with BIE regulations, as well as evaluating support that this application enjoys at the internal, political and social levels, MAE informs in a release .
Candidacy of Brazilian Sao Paulo city for the exhibition with the theme „The Power of Diversity, Harmony for Growth” focuses on promoting international cooperation at the cultural and inter-human levels, being dedicated to promoting Brazil as a fully developing country and a clear emerging economic power.
In the situation it is winning the bid, it is estimated that the event will gather more than 150 countries and international organizations and over 30 million visitors.
Ferdinand Nagy and the evaluation mission members were received, on Tuesday, by the former President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Since November 2011, Romania holds the Presidency of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE), an international organization set up in Paris, in 1932, which coordinates organization of global and international exhibitions. The Organization, which gradually gained notoriety, popularity and importance, currently numbers 162 member states.
The decision on the country, the city that will host the 2020 World Exhibition will be taken by vote of the member countries, on the occasion of BIE General Assembly in November / December.
In the period January 28 to February 1, an assessment mission took place to examine the candidacy of the Ayutthaya city, filed by the Kingdom of Thailand; from February 10 to 15, there was an evaluation mission of the candidacy of Izmir city, filed by the Republic of Turkey and from 23 February – 2 March the assessment mission for the candidacy of Dubai city, filed by the United Arab Emirates.
Between March 25 to 29, 2013, BIE will run the assessment mission for the candidacy of Ekaterinburg city, filed by the Russian Federation, to host the world exhibition in 2020.
