Code Yellow warning of snow, blizzard from Monday, Code Orange starting Tuesday

The National Forecaster early on Monday has issued a Code Yellow warning of rains, snowfalls and blizzard for Muntenia (southern Romania), the Banat Mountains in the West and the Southern Carpathians in force from 8 p.m. on Monday and a separate Code Orange alert for the southern counties of Valcea, Arges, Dambovita, Prahova, Buzau, Ilfov and the northern areas of the counties of Olt, Teleorman and Giurgiu (southern Romania) as well as Bucharest starting 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Forecaster said there will be downpours – mainly snowfalls – in Oltenia (southern Romania), most of Muntenia and the Banat Mountains as well as in the Southern Carpathians from 8 p.m. on Monday till 4 a.m. on Tuesday, that will be up to 20 litres per square metre in certain areas. There will be 55-60 kmph wind that will set up snowdrifts.

Another Code Yellow warning will be in place on Tuesday, from 4 a.m. till 2 p.m. for the southern half of Romania, where there will be snowfalls and blizzards.

A Code Orange alert over the same interval is issued for the counties of Valcea, Arges, Dambovita, Prahova, Buzau, Ilfov and the northern areas of the counties of Olt, Teleorman and Giurgiu as well as Bucharest, as the forecasters expect heavy snowfalls and gusts of wind at 70 kmph drifting the snow.

In northern and central Moldavia (eastern Romania) and in Maramures, in the North snow will fall and while there will be no wind, there will be a fresh snow layer.
