Restoration, extension and functional reshaping work on the Gabroveni Inn in the Historical Centre of Bucharest will be finalized at the end of this year, said Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu.
Being on a visit to check the stage of the work on the Gabroveni Inn, which is situated in the Lipscani Street, the GeneralMayor said he was satisfied with the way things evolve on the building site.
‘It is the second time we have come to the building site and the evolution is quite obvious, with much respect and care for what was here and with the wish to preserve everything that can be preserved for the other generations to see what it looks like, how it is restored. Damaged bricks are replaced and we preserve as much as we can from what was here before,’ said Oprescu.
The rehabilitation work on the Gabroveni Inn includes several kinds of operations: conservation, consolidation and restoration of the inn and of its shopping arcade and turning to account the historical monument as well as extension of the existing building by a new wing.
According to the General Mayor the two buildings – the historical monument and its extension – will be subject to a functional reshaping (the European Cultural Centre), which should make it possible to integrate the historical monument into the social, cultural ad tourist circuit of the capital city.
At present 42 percent of the work is already finished.
