Ford Motor Company on Friday announced that late in April it will begin production of a new engine at its plant in Craiova (southern Romania) – 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, according to information provided by Ford Romania.
‘The production of the new four-cylinder 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine – the fifth member of the EcoBoost family – will begin at the world-renowned Ford car plant in Craiova, Romania, late this month. Other facilities that will produce this engine will be advertised in the future. The new engine will be first introduced on the Chinese market with the Ford Mondeo model, to be launched late this month at the Shanghai Motor Show 2013. Subsequently, the new 1.5 l EcoBoost engine will equip the Fusion model in North America later this year and the new Mondeo in Europe respectively’, the Ford company said in a release on Friday to Agerpres.
Ford now has the capacity to build 1.6 million EcoBoost engines annually and expand the number of factories that produce EcoBoost engine in Europe, Asia and North America. The 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine benefits from the turbo EcoBoost technology, direct fuel injection and variable valve distribution, generating a larger motor power and the consumption of a small engine.
‘The 1.5 litre engine represents an essential strategically apparition for Ford, given the company’s efforts to respond to the significant global demand for its EcoBoost four-cylinder engines. With the launch of its newest fuel-efficient engines, Ford now has the capacity to build 1.6 million EcoBoost engines annually. By the end of 2013 six Ford factories in Europe, Asia and North America, will produce EcoBoost engines, tripling the number of factories producing these engines in 2010’, says the Ford Motor Company release.
The EcoBoost technology improve both consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 20 percent. In addition, some markets offer tax cuts to customers that acquire vehicles with engines of 1.5 litres or smaller.
Ford is currently producing at its plant in Craiova the B-MAX cars and 1-litre EcoBoost engines.
