Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Wednesday voiced his appreciation for the involvement of US companies, especially in the energy sector, pointing out that Romania thus had the chance of recovering its energy independence in the near future.
‘I should say from the start that compared with last year’s celebration [of the National Day of the USA] I can feel a more relaxed atmosphere, as last year there was also a very hot period for Bucharest and for Romania. I am pleased to see that now Romania, a stable and predictable country, proves to be a trustful and stable partner for the USA,’ Ponta said at the reception devoted to the National Day of the USA.
The Romanian Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of the military cooperation between the two countries, voicing his praises for the activity of the Romanian and US military, who fought in Afghanistan and in other parts of the world ‘shoulder by shoulder.’
‘I want to bring to mind our determination of implementing the anti-missile system, but, the military cooperation is not the only one developing in this period,’ the Premier added.
In context, he pointed out that Romania was a devoted member of the European Union, believing in the success of a free trade and cooperation agreement between the EU and the USA, which could create new jobs and new opportunities for both sides.
‘As far as economy is concerned, I would like to mention my appreciation for the involvement of your companies in very many areas, but especially in the energy sector, because this way Romania has a chance of recovering its energy independence in the near future (…), which would be a great achievement for our country and which will provide us with all the opportunities for using all the still undiscovered potential of the country,’ Victor Ponta said.
Senate President Crin Antonescu, Ponta Cabinet Ministers, former President Ion Iliescu, representatives of the central authorities and of the diplomatic body also attended the event devoted to the National Day of the USA, celebrated on July 4.
