Vice-president of the National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) Ion Pisc declared on Tuesday that some 8,000 layoffs might be registered nationwide by the end of the year following the privatization and restructuring of state-owned companies.
„This is about 3,600 redundancies at the Romanian Mail Company, another 1,000 layoffs at the service division of Electrica Serv Group; 1,000 redundancies at the electricity and heat generation units, and 1,300 redundancies planned at Termoelectrica Galati, Termoelectrica Braila and Elcen,” Pisc said before the scheduled meeting of the union leaders with representatives of the International Monetary Fund mission (IMF).
Ion Pisc added that also envisaged in the privatization process are the Hunedoara Energy Complex, as well as minority stakes in Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica and CE Oltenia, and stressed that this is one of the topics that will be tackled during the talks.
Another point on the agenda of the talks with IMF representatives is – according to the BNS leader – labor legislation, as the unions advocate the amendment of Law No. 62/2011 on social dialogue.
An IMF team headed by Andrea Schaechter is in Romania over July 17 – 31 to discuss the next program with Romania. The conclusions of the meetings will be presented at the end of the mission. (National News Agency AGERPRES)
