Ponta: We approved Gov’t Decision on privatization of CFR Marfa; it will be submitted to CSAT for endorsement

The Executive approved, on Wednesday, the decision on privatization of CFR Marfa (Rail Freight), and the piece of legislation is going to be sent to the Supreme Defence Council of the Country (CSAT) for endorsement, announced Prime Minister Victor Ponta in a press conference.

„We adopted, in conformity with the Law on privatization, the Government Decision on approval of the main elements of the contract of sale and purchase of shares, between the Romanian state, through the Ministry of Transport and Romanian Railway Group trading company. This Government Decision was adopted as a continuation of the procedures going to be completed within 60 days, as it is required by the privatization strategy. To launch the procedure of privatization, first of all, a Romanian Government commitment in relation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission was needed, assumed before the current Government I head, by President Basescu and those who fulfilled at that time the office of Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Minister of Transport. We implemented an obligation assumed by Romania „, Ponta said.

He noted that the privatization process is in an advanced stage and that the normative act adopted on Wednesday, by the Government, will be sent to CSAT.

„This decision by the Government we will forward, based on the Ministry of Justice’s opinion, to CSAT, for endorsement. If there are things likely to seriously affect the privatization process, CSAT, in which I take part – obviously it is chaired by the President – is the public institution where these elements that we do not know can be raised, if not, that means we are going forward with this privatization (…) „, Ponta added.

He also said that, if CSAT will not endorse the Government Decision on privatization of CFR, the contract with the bidding winner would not be signed in its turn.(National News Agency AGERPRES)
