Prime Minister Victor Ponta declared at a the meeting with local authorities in Sibiu (center) that he does not rush into the project of regionalization and that the variant of having regionalization carried out next year is being considered, although there is the risk that a minor problem arises regarding the organization of the uptake of EU funds.
„My personal opinion is that a good thing needs not be done in a rush. So that if it’s not this year and will be next year instead, there’s only a little problem regarding the organization of the uptake of EU funds, but then perhaps we’ll have more time to thoroughly devise the regionalization project for the next 20-25 years,” said Victor Ponta.
The PM added that he will not pronounce too soon on the subject of regional capitals. „I don’t think you’ll hear me too soon as to where I think the capital of a particular region should be, before we first decide what responsibilities to assign to the regions. From my point of view, as a Prime Minister, the more responsibilities we give the regions, counties, cities, the better it will be. I find it unacceptable that so many things are further decided in Bucharest,” Ponta explained.
