„Vlad the Righteous Knight”, theme of twenty-first edition of Medieval Sighisoara Festival
The Grand Parade of knights,, troubadours, minstrels, actors and artisans, with the participation of over 200 people, opened on Friday the twenty-first edition of the Medieval Sighisoara Festival which, as a first, is focused on a purely Romanian theme „Vlad the Righteous Knight”.
Each of the participating knight orders from Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria were hailed and received the investiture as Free Citizens of Sighisoara Citadel by Prince Vlad, whose role went to the festival’s artistic director, theater director Liviu Pancu.
The twenty-first edition of the Medieval Sighisoara Festival, organized by the Town Hall and Sighisoara Tourist Association, is held under the theme „Vlad the Righteous Knight”, subtitled „Between myth and history”, starting from the symbol of Vlad the Righteous Knight to that of Dracula, an inappeasable spirit.
This year, the organizers chose a theme based on a Romanian hero, who is Vlad Tepes (the ruler of Wallachia – 1448, 1456-1462 and 1476), a name that is linked by birth to the Citadel of Sighisoara ,based on the idea that Vlad Dracul, a former ruler of Wallachia (1436-1442 and 1443-1447), lived in Sighisoara between 1431-1435. According to existing data, his second son, Vlad Tepes, was born in Sighisoara, in 1431, being later dubbed Vlad Draculea, but also Dracula.
The theme „Vlad the Righteous Knight’ was chosen after such performances were staged on the occasion of the previous editions as „The Return of the Knights”, „Merlin – the hero of the medieval world” and „Joan of Arc”.(National News Agency AGERPRES)
