The closing ceremony of Multinational Exercise Black Sea Rotational Force 13 (BSRF 13) was held at the Administrative Center Mihail Kogalniceanu, Constanta County (south-east).
Over 1,000 Romanian troops and some 600 troops of Bulgaria, FYRO Macedonia and the USA conducted a six-month long exercise, starting with February 2013, across the territory of Romania and several other countries in the area of the Black Sea, the Balkans and the Caucasus.
Among the locations where the exercise was conducted in Romania were Bucharest, Craiova, Dej, Babadag, Pitesti, Fagaras, Constanta and Mihail Kogalniceanu.
„The exercise included activities that are usually conducted before the deployment to a theater of operations (…), carrying patrol missions in the area of responsibility and securing objectives, response and action in case of ambush etc. As well, seminars on the topic of logistics, operations, CIMIC and the development of NCO corps were also organized with the participation of about 60 Romanian and foreign NCOs from NATO member and partner countries” officials of the Ministry of National Defense informed.
The American commander of BSRF 13, Steve Wolf, mentioned that all exercises and events have contributed to the training of allies and partners to participate in NATO missions for maintaining security in Europe.
„The events have contributed to the training of our allies and partners to participate in NATO missions and demonstrated our commitment towards this region and towards the maintenance of security and stability in Europe”, Steve Wolf said.
Commander BSRF 13 – Romanian Forces, Colonel Doru Apafaian said that „the exercise was a success from all points of view”, involving all categories of forces, land, sea and air, with a focus mainly on training for deployment of forces that have left or will leave to the theater of operations in Afghanistan.
Now in its fourth edition, BSRF 13 was led by the U.S. Marine Corps deployed in Europe, the exercise going to be repeated in 2014 with other military units.
