The Department for Infrastructure Projects and Foreign Investments (DPIIS) lodged with the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) a complaint about the lack of the original copy of the contract with Bechtel, according to a press release.
‘The Department for Infrastructure Projects and Foreign Investments lodged with DNA a complaint about committing the crime of negligence of office referring to the protection of classified information, consisting in the lack of the original copy of the contract on designing, building and financing the Brasov-Cluj-Bors motorway, concluded between the Romanian State through the agency of the National Company for Motorways and National Roads in Romania and the American company Bechtel International Inc, as well as the lack of all the documents subsequent to this contract,’ reads the above-mentioned release.
According to DPIIS, the complaint also requests that, in case it turns out that the deeds led to the lack/refusal of producing this document change into another crime, they should order criminal responsibility to be assumed, if need be, for the crime of destruction, theft or abuse of office against public interests.
‘The complaint was lodged with the National Anticorruption Directorate as it is a business crime that may cause important damage to the Romanian State, higher than the equivalent of 1,000,000 euros, considering the value of the contract with Bechtel International Inc. It was carried out ‘in rem’ and it is not directed against a certain person. The National Anticorruption Directorate is capable of investigating who is to blame for the lack of the original copy of the contract,’ also reads the release mentioned before.
