Labour Ministry: 710 people suffer work-related accidents in Q1, with 24 of those fatal


The number of people that suffered work-related accidents in Q1 2013 decreased by 31.6% from the same period of last year, to 710 people, of whom 24 lost their lives, by 47.8% fewer cases, according to the statistics released by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Protection and Elderly People.

The sectors of the national economy where most work-related accidents occurred in Q1 2013 are: coal extraction – 41 accidents, representing 5.8% of the total number of accidents recorded in the national economy, manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers – 37 accidents (5.1% of total), wholesale trade, except for the trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles – 36 accidents (5.1%), wood processing, manufacture of wood and cork products, except for furniture, and manufacture of straw items – 32 accidents (4. 5%).

Most fatalities were recorded in the following sectors: special construction works – 3 cases, representing 12.5% of all fatalities in the national economy; activities of investigation and protection – 3 cases (12.5% of total), forestry and logging – 2 cases (8.33%).
