President Basescu: Antonescu, Ponta, Blaga should take care of criminals in their parties; I’ve no lawbreaker in PNL, says Crin Antonescu
Romanian President Traian Basescu said on Monday that the Social Liberal Union (USL, at rule) leaders Crin Antonescu and Victor Ponta as well as opposition Democratic Liberal (PDL) leader Vasile Blaga should take care’ of the criminals’ in their parties instead of criticizing the state institutions.
‘Neither do I accept the lies they say about the president’s control of the DNA (National Anti-Corruption Directorate – editor’s note). Crin Antonescu and Victor Ponta and Vasile Blaga and everybody should take care of the criminals they have in their parties, instead of putting the blame on the state institutions that try to protect the citizens from the criminals’, Basescu said at the presidential Cotroceni Palace.
The head of state slammed the fact that Prime Minister Victor Ponta had accused him of having allegedly set up a case’ against medical doctor Serban Bradisteanu.
‘I’ve heard Victor Ponta say that the president had set up a case against Doctor Bradisteanu. This can only be said by a man whose capability of understanding how the state functions is extremely limited. I heard Crin Antonescu speaking yesterday about the DNA and the DNA’s fight against them. No, the DNA fights against the thieves – this is what both Crin Antonescu and Victor Ponta should understand’, Basescu underscored.
National Liberal Party (PNL) president Crin Antonescu said late on Monday that there is no lawbreaker in the PNL.
‘It should be very clear to everybody, to Mr. Basescu included, who if he speaks informally, he should mind he is the President, and that I have no lawbreaker in the PNL. A criminal is someone whom a Court sentences as an offender, and any Party member who faced such a situation, they quitted,’ Antonescu told the Antena 3 television.
The Liberal official stressed that the head of the State should carefully use the word thief.
‘If he, like any other propagandists, believe that someone like Mircea Diaconu can be defined as a thief, in Romania, or that Eduard Hellvig or Dan Mihalache can be named thieves, or that so many other people can be called thieves, I do not think so, but what I tell Mr. Basescu, without using the word thief, or no other word like that, is that I publicly assure Mr, Basescu that no Liberal Party member, a criminal or not, have been ever sentenced, or their records vanished without a trace, as we all know cases of people of his very close political and sometimes even physical circles, so he should carefully use words like thief, criminal, lawbreaker, but he , as well as me, or Mr. Ponta, from our posts, we had better watch that institutions that had to be independent, par excellence, and they ought truly to work correctly and honestly,’ said Antonescu.
He also stressed that, at the beginning of the upcoming Parliamentary session, he is to call upon the Justice Ministry to claim the DNA (National Anticorruption Directorate) to present the situation of the investigations into the former Government,’ because he wanted to make sure that no one of Traian Basescu’s political entourage had been ever investigated, and he gave the example of Gheorghe Falca who had been acquitted.
