Firemen acted in over 145,000 events this year, showing devotion, courage
The Romanian firemen took action in more than 145,000 events in the first half-year, proving that their priority is the safety of all the citizens in Romania, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said in a message on the Firemen’s Day celebrated on Friday.
‘On the occasion of the Romanian Firemen’s Day, we honour those for whom devotion, courage and selflessness are qualities put to the service of saving human lives, of protecting the environment and the Romanians’ goods. The risks they take in the effort of helping their fellows are proof of extraordinary moral qualities, that have always been appreciated by the Romanians by the respect and confidence they have showed in the Firemen’s institution’, says the message signed by the prime minister that was sent by the Government’s Press Office.
Romania has been celebrating the Firemen’s Day on September 13 since 1953 to honour the memory of the heroic act of the military firemen headed by Lieutenant Pavel Zaganescu, who fought the Ottoman troops at Bucharest’s Dealu Spirii to defend the 1848 Revolution.
