President of Czech Senate at Cotroceni voices his country’s support for Romania joining Schengen area
President Traian Basescu on Tuesday, at the Cotroceni Palace, received President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Milan Stech, who voiced the support of his country for Romania joining the Schengen area.
According to a release issued by the Presidential Administration, Traian Basescu voiced appreciation for the very good level of the Romanian-Czech bilateral relations, which have been characterized by a substantial political dialogue and an increasingly more intense cooperation in the past few years.
‘The President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Mr Milan Stech, insisted on thanking Romania’s President, Mr Traian Basescu, for the participation of the Romanian Army in the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945 and for Romania’s position that was favourable to Czechoslovakia during the 1968 Prague Spring. He emphasized the fact that these two moments were decisive for the future consolidation of the friendship between our countries,’ reads the above-mentioned release.
Milan Stech also voiced the support of the Czech Republic for Romania’s integration into the Schengen area.
He spoke of the bilateral economic cooperation, which, in spite of the financial crisis, preserved a good dynamics, but also about the presence of Czech investors on the Romanian market, especially in the energy field, also informs the Presidential Administration.
The President of the Senate of the Czech Republic said he was interested in supporting the Banat area (western Romania), where there is a community of Czech people.
