National Liberal Party (PNL) Chairman Crin Antonescu on Monday announced he would propose in the Political Bureau meeting that the PNL MEPs join the European People’s Party (EPP).
‘The political horizon opening is Left-Wing — Right-Wing. (…) Following consultations with many colleagues, in the Central Political Bureau meeting I shall propose that the PNL MEPs join the EPP. It is a decision I shall propose and which I hope will be adopted — we cannot assume the risk of the European Commission being headed by a Socialist President (…) there is a doctrine, a strategic orientation compatibility,’ Antonescu said.
„Those who will have more seats between EPP and PES will designate the President of the European Commission. Our option is very clear, for the Right-Wing, for a EPP President of the European Commission,” Crin Antonescu said.
He noted that there is a doctrine compatibility between EPP and PNL, „which traditionally is a Right-Wing party, the oldest Right-Wing party of Romania.”
„The Right-Wing should unite forces in Europe, the Right-Wing should unite forces in Romania. I hope the Central Bureau will make this decision,” Crin Antonescu added. (Agenţia Naţională de Presă AGERPRES)
