Code Orange advisory for high Danube waters

The Danube will rise past alert and flood levels downstream the Iron Gates (Romania southwest), informs the National Hydrology and Water Management Institute (INHGA), which issued on Monday a Code Orange advisory, warning that Danube flow rates and levels downstream the Iron Gates hydro-power system surpass alert and flooding levels.

The announced phenomena are expected to occur as of Monday, June 21, 4:00 p.m. until Monday, June 28, 4:00 p.m. INHGA also maintains the Yellow Code warning issued for the period beginning Monday, June 21, 4:00 by the Gruia hydrometric station (Mehedinti Country), for the Giurgiu (south) – Cernavoda (south-east) and Galati – Tulcea (east) sectors.
According to INHGA terminology, water exceeding alert levels as per a Code Yellow advisory signals a risk of flash flooding and fast growth in water levels, whereas the Code Orange warns of water exceeding flooding levels and the likelihood of flash floods that generate significant overflowing.
