INHGA enlarges code red flood advisory for the Prut
Code red flood advisory for the Prut River has been enlarged to include the entire Stanca – Dranceni sector in the north-eastern county of Botosani and the eastern counties of Iasi and Vaslui, hydrologist Elena Anghel of the National Water Forecasts Centre of the National Institute for Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) told on Monday.
The same advisory will be kept in place throughout Tuesday 16:00hrs, local, on the Sivita – Danube portion, in the eastern county of Galati, and on the Sendreni – Danube portion of the Siret in the same county.
Code yellow advisory of lesser flood severity is kept in place on the Olt River at the hydrological station of Hoghiz, the central county of Brasov, and the tributaries of the lower and middle Olt that cross the central counties of Harghita, Covasna, Brasov and Sibiu, as well as on the Suceava and its tributaries that cross the north-eastern county of Suceva, and the Moldova and its tributaries in the counties of Suceva and Neamt.
Specialists are expecting rises in river flows to exceed the early warning, danger and even flood levels as a result of the flashfloods and slope flows that will trigger local flooding. The river basins that are included in their forecasts are of the Prut, Siret (east), Olt (center), Somes, Viseu and Iza (western and northern parts of Romania) rivers.
INHGA is warning that surges in river flows are also likely to occur in mountain areas. The advisories regard that July 5, 16:00hrs, local – July 6, 16:00hrs, local interval. ‘Given the weather forecasts of consistent rainfalls, INHGA will issue an update of the water advisories on Tuesday,’ said Anghel.
