Net coal production 6.2 pct lower in H1
Romania’s net coal production amounted to round 2.666 million tonnes of oil equivalent, namely 6.2 percent (60,800 toe) smaller in the first half of 2010, compared to that of the similar period of 2009, National Statistics Institute (INS) data say. Romania imported 238,400 toe of net coal, during the first six months of the year, by 96,800 toe (28.9 percent) less vs. the coal imported over the same time span, last year.
Romania‘s National Prognosis Commission (CNP) expects Romania to put out 5.696 million-toe coal, and to import 1.49 million toe, in 2010. According to British Petroleum (BP) statistics, Romania held coal reserves of 422 million tonnes (0.1 percent of the world reserves), late in 2008, the biggest reserves being in the United States, namely 238.308 billion tones, in Russia – 157.01 billion toe, and China – 114.5 billion toe. The EU reserves grossed 29.57 billion toe, namely 3.6 percent of the total, BP figures also say.
