Number of construction permits falls 28 pct in Q1

Number of construction permits for residential buildings fell 27.9 percent in Romania, in the first quarter of the year as against the same period a year earlier, informs the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In Q1 2010, as many as 7,621 construction permits for residential buildings were released, accounting for a 27.9 percent drop from the similar period the previous year. The most dramatic declines were registered by the following development regions: Muntenia South (minus 674 permits), South-East (minus 499 permits) and Bucharest-Ilfov (minus 423 permits). A number of 3,445 construction permits for residential buildings were released in March 2010, a jump of 51.6 percent on February 2010 and a drop by 21 percent on March 2009. Of the 3,445 construction permits for residential buildings, issued in March, 63.3 percent are for rural zones.
