According to DNA, Diaconescu threatened Ion Mot, the mayor of Zarand commune, Arad County (west), both directly and through Doru Parv, to give him 200,000 euros, reads Diaconescu’s sentence. According to the document dated June 18, 2010, Mot practically paid 30,000 euro, namely 4,200 lei, of the money he was initially requested.
‘Mot was blackmailed that his real or alleged compromising deeds such as owning a considerable wealth, or having made illegal transactions with the farmlands, to the detriment of the citizens of Zarand village, would be disclosed,” says the above-said decision. DNA prosecutors accuse the OTV owner Dan Diaconescu of blackmail and intimidation lawyer Daniel Fenechiu said on Monday, also stressing that the prosecutors have no evidence but a promo broadcast in July 2009.
