State secretary Bogdan Mazuru, at GAERC Meeting

State secretary for European affairs Bogdan Mazuru takes part over Oct. 26-27, 2009 in the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) Meeting, in Luxembourg.

According to a MAE press release, the GAERC Council’s agenda includes the recent evolutions in Iran, the peace process in the Middle East, the European Union policy towards Afghanistan and Pakistan, the West Balkans, with accent on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Moldova, as well as the humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka.
As well, the Council will adopt the conclusions on the revision of sanctions for Uzbekistan, the EU – Indonesia relations, the political evolutions in Yemen, Sahel, Great Lakes and Guinea- Conakry.

The meeting will start with the General Affairs session within which discussions will be carried out on the sidelines of the European autumn Council’s conclusions, set to take place over Oct. 29 – 30, in Brussels.

Within the summit the heads of state and of the government will discuss institutional aspects, in the context of the preparations for the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty provisions, as well as the climate changes, the economic, financial and social situation, the energy security, the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea region and the migration management issues. The following cooperation councils will also take place: EU – Armenia, EU – Azerbaijan and EU – Georgia, as well as the EU – Council of Europe Meeting.
