Central bank: Amount of cash in circulation up 3.2 pct in July
At the end of July 2010, the amount of cash in circulation was 26.929 billion lei (about 6.33 billion euros), up 3.2 percent against June 2010 and by 10.1 percent higher from July 2009, shows data released on Tuesday by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).
Overnight deposits (current accounts and sight deposits) totaled 52.944 billion lei, by 2.7 percent less than in June 2010 and by 7.1 percent lower compared to July 2009. Deposits with an initial maturity of up to two years amounted to 110.899 billion lei, by 0.8 percent lower compared to June 2010, but 12.1 percent higher from July 2009.
Broad money (M3), which also includes other financial instruments (money from repurchase agreements, money market stocks/units, negotiable securities with a maturity of up to two years inclusively) was 192.349 bln lei at the end of July 2010. Compared with June 2010, the figure decreased 0.7 percent (minus 3.2 percent in real terms); compared with July 2009, the money supply was six percent higher (minus 1 pct in real terms).
