Pogea: IMF accepts budget deficit of around seven percent in 2009

Public Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea said, on Friday, at a press conference, that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) accepts that a budget deficit around seven percent be reached, taking into account the fact that the difficulties in the economy are caused by foreign factors, such as the economic crisis.

The International Monetary Fund accepts a budget deficit around seven percent, or maybe of 7.2 percent, taking into account the impact of the crisis on the Romanian economy.

Many of these effects cannot be controlled by the Government of Romania,” the Finance minister said.
At the end of the Government meeting held on Wednesday, PM Emil Boc mentioned that during the informal meeting with the representatives of the IMF, the European Commission and the World Bank, made was a preliminary analysis of the economic situation.

„The economic contraction at the start of the year was higher than that foreseen. Necessary is an adjustment of the deficit and the continuation of the reform measures,” said Emil Boc.
