State should recover over 2 B euros from public system employees paid by local authorities

The state budget should recover more than two million euros from the employees in the local administration (including teaching staff paid from local budgets), in bonuses paid ‘outside the law’, according to Secretary of State with the Ministry of Public Finance (MFP), Gheorghe Gherghina.

He told a press conference on Wednesday that reports of control actions of the Court of Accounts, in late 2008, found that local authorities had paid wage rights ‘outside the law’ to 235,000 people, while the number of those who received bonuses or other benefits in late 2009 stood at 400,000. ‘The latest centralization of the Court of Accounts points to the idea that the state should recover more than two million euros paid in illegal rights,’ said Gherghina.
