Education Minister meets union leaders on Thursday

Education Minister Daniel Funeriu said on Wednesday, May 12, that he would invite union leaders on Thursday to talks and called on the teaching staff not to bow to the trade unions’ request to stage an all-out strike in education on May 31.

„I urge the trade unions to come to talks, for us to find the best-fitted solutions so as not to disrupt the school year,” said Funeriu, who was present on Wednesday at the debates in the Chamber of Deputies’ Education Committee on the Education Law. Funeriu added that it is not fair towards the children and parents to freeze the school year, because Romania is already having a difficult situation.
The education sector will go on all-out strike on May 31, head of the ‘ Spiru Haret’ trade union George Isvoranu announced on Wednesday. „Also, the teachers will not fill out the end-of-year marks in the rosters and strikes will be organized in counties throughout Romania on June 2,” said Isvoranu.
