Isarescu says no talks on tax increase were held with IMF

The National Bank of Romania (BNR) did not tackle the topic of taxes increase with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) representatives, but the one related to the monetary and banking system stability, said the BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu on Thursday.

‘We have not discussed the taxes increase, but the monetary and financial system stability. If Romania wants to apply the social state model, it cannot do that with incomes of only 30-31 percent of GDP and 40 percent of GDP expenditure. We need to reach returns of 40 percent, maybe 45-50 percent,’ said Mugur Isarescu.
