Floods alert issued for River Danube, 12 river basins

The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management on Thursday has issued a fresh alert of swollen waters above the flood alert levels in the River Danube and 12 river basins.

Thus, the Institute experts maintain the Code Orange alert during 4 p.m. on Thursday – 4 p.m. on Friday for the rivers Crasna, Timis and Barzava in the counties of Satu Mare (northern Romania) and Timis, in the west.
A Code Yellow alert of floods also stays valid for the rivers Tur, Crasna, Barcau, Crisul Negru, Bega Veche, Bega, Timis, Barzava, Moravita, Caras, Tarnava Mica and the middle Olt in the counties of Maramures, Satu Mare, Bihor, Timis, Caras Severin, Mures, Alba and Brasov, mostly in northern, western and central Romania.

The Hydrology Institute experts have also issued a Code Yellow alert of higher river waters above the flooding levels on the River Danube downstream the Iron Gates hydro-power station and dam (southwestern Romania).
The Code Yellow alert on the Danube applies at Calafat, the Dolj county and Isaccea, the Tulcea county in southern and southeastern Romania respectively starting 6 a.m. on Saturday and on the Calafat – Zimnicea stretch starting Sunday. The alert for the Danube ends on May 27, at 6 a.m.
