Romania’s trade deficit drops by more than 300 mln euros in Q1

FOB-CIF trade deficit in the first quarter of 2010 stood at 7.926 billion lei (1.923 billion euros), 1.536 billion lei (302.7 million euros) lower compared to the first quarter of 2009, informed the National Statistics Institute (INS).

FOB exports made in Q1 2010 stood at 32.472 billion lei (7,879 billion euros) and CIF imports stood at 40. 398 billion lei (9.802 billion euros). Compared to Q1 2009 the exports jumped by 15.4 percent in lei expressed values (19.4 percent as expressed in euros), and imports rose by 7.4 percent in lei expressed values (11 percent in euro expressed values).

The value of intra-community exchange of goods in Q1 2010 stood at 24.125 billion lei (5.864 billion euros) in outgoings and 29.094 billion lei (7.075 billion euros) ingoings, accounting for 74.3 percent of total exports and 72 percent of total imports. In March 2010, according to the INS preliminary estimations, FOB exports amounted at 12.223 billion lei (2.983 billion euros) and CIF imports – 15.731 billion lei (3.84 billion euros).

As against March 2009, the exports were up 10.1 percent in lei expressed values (15.1 percent in euros expressed values) and the imports rose by 12.6 percent in lei expressed values (17.8 percent in euros expressed values). FOB-CIF trade deficit in March 2010 stood at 3.508 billion lei (856.6 million euros), higher by 641.3 million lei (187.4 million euros) as compared to March 2009.
